Today, the Municipality of Naples, as Contracting Authority, formally awarded the natural gas distribution service concession for the “Naples 1” territorial area, including Naples and the municipalities of Ercolano, Portici, San Giorgio a Cremano, Torre Annunziata, and Torre del Greco, to 2i Rete Gas.
The concession arrangement has a term of 12 years and is worth approximately 650 million euro.
Under the development plan, to be implemented after the handover from the current operator, 2i Rete Gas is to invest nearly 240 million euro overall; specifically, the plan involves the following:
− performing extraordinary maintenance on approximately 170 kilometres of gas transmission lines, as well as 6 first-stage pressure reduction stations, 233 final reduction stations, and over 15,000 distribution lines;
− completing the digitisation of the grid and the plants, installing state-of-the-art meters as well as systems to remotely monitor and control service equipment;
− building approximately 125 kilometres of gas transmission lines to bring the service to citizens currently not served;
− pursuing a major plan to boost the energy efficiency of the distribution grid as well as the offices and vehicles the company will use to operate the concession.
With the start of the concession for the Naples 1 and Coastal System territorial area, comprised of approximately 400 thousand utility customers and nearly 1,700 km of gas transmission lines, 2i Rete Gas will bolster its national footprint and continue its growth path, ensuring a high-quality service, high safety standards, technological innovation, and cost-effective operations, with major benefits for the grantors as well as end customers—thanks also to the contribution of the 238 women and men currently operating the gas plants of the area and who will join 2i Rete Gas.
In the Campania region, 2i Rete Gas today supplies gas to over 252 thousand end customers connected to the grid, with major investments in maintenance as well as the expansion of the service; in addition, through the subsidiary Cilento Reti Gas S.r.l., the Group is bringing natural gas service to 31 municipalities in the Cilento area, investing approximately an estimated 148 million euro overall to bring the service to over 34 thousand households in the area—including nearly 3.5 thousand already active as at the end of 2020.
